The United States presidential election of 2016 marked the 58th quadrennial US presidential election. Businessman and reality TV personality Donal Trump become the Republican Party's presidential nominee on 19th July and former Secretary of State and New York Senator Hillary Clinton become the Democratic Party's nominee on 26th July after defeating Senator Bernie Sanders. This year's elections was the first election with a female presidential nominee from a major political party. Trump's campaign has involved him saying Clinton "would be in jail" over her email controversy, he would build a wall on the US-Mexico border and it would be paid for by Mexico, reports of Trump bragging about forcibly kissing women was brought up, temporarily ban Muslims from entering the US, promising to bring manufacturing jobs back, taking the oil/bomb ISIS and for being and making claims that President Obama was not a US citizen. Then Hilary's campaign consisted of celebrity faces such as Katy Perry, Jon Bon Jovi and Lady Gaga, promising to pass comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship, standing up to Republican-led attacks, promises of affordable health care for more people, fighting for equal pay and expanding background checks for gun sales. Last night was the third and final presidential debate and the debates have been the nastiest ones ever, Trump and Clinton both finally debate their promises and actions across to Americans before voting day on the 8th November.
I'm joined by Philip Henley, Tracy Collins, Spencer Morgan and special guest who travelled all the way from America politic journalist Amy Cooper as we take on the Trump vs Clinton topic in this podcast. We go over what has been said by both candidates in all debates and speeches given to assess who we feel is more fitted to win the presidential elections. As the race for becoming president is drawing to a close, we review closely Trump and Hilary's campaigns comparing the ways the two parties have represented themselves and the propositions given, drawing a conclusion of who has done better. In addition we dive into the media side of the US elections and the impact the media may have on how people vote especially who to vote for as we look at news headlines, print and TV advertisements and the use of celebrity endorsement like Jon Bon Jovi have been used in order to sway the opinions of people in favour for them. Lastly to sum up after reviewing current polls of who's more in favour, we hear the public's predictions and give our own.
